A Substance of Hope

It’s hard to imagine that there is a substance in this world which can reverse drug addiction, and yet it is not legal in the country with the largest number of drug addicts. The use of Ibogaine in the Unites States could drastically reduce the number of people that are currently in rehab, and fighting with a drug problem. Understandably people are skeptical at first, this almost seems to good to be true, but the studies show that Ibogaine is safe and effective. “An estimated 3414 individuals had taken Ibogaine as of February 2006, a fourfold increase relative to 5 years earlier, with 68% of the total having taken it for the treatment of a substance-related disorder, and 53% specifically for opioid withdrawal”(Lotsof 15). Howard S. Lotsof is attempting to spread the knowledge about Ibogaine in hopes that it will become legal here in the United States. I strongly believe that Lotsof is right about Ibogaine and it is can make a drastic change in many peoples lives. For the sake of our countries future I hope people become more aware of the possibilities Ibogaine give us. Never give up Lotsof!

Taking Chances

Twilight of the Idols by Friedrich Nietzsche though controversial, may have been one of the most interesting pieces I have read. I personally enjoy a little controversy, it keeps things more interesting. After all life would be very boring if everyone agreed on everything, and never argued or debated. Throughout the text Nietzsche had a lot of great quotes which I had seen before, such as “what does not kill me only makes me stronger” (23) and “Every truth is simple – Is that not doubly a lie?” (23). I enjoyed reading this piece, mainly because it got me thinking. Throughout the pages he would bring up points that would make you stop and wonder about everything you once believed. I believe that is what good writers should do. If they can make you question your previous beliefs for even a moment then they have accomplished their task, and are wonderful persuaders. Many times people are afraid to write about certain topics, especially religion, but Nietzsche took it on and stated exactly how he felt. Sure there were many people that he would be offending by speaking his mind, but none the less he voiced his opinion. I give him a lot of credit for being so gutsy and taking the chance writing about these topics.

Only Me!

Reading Frank Sulloway’s “Birth Order and Sibling Competition” was very interesting and gave me a new out look on families. As an only child, I never had the sibling fights that all of my friends would have. I always wondered why they could not just get along, but now I see how the timing of their birth changes everything. Your entire life can be affected based upon when you were born. I believe I get the best of every world being an only child. There were many things that I never realized until reading this piece. I now notice the personalities of some of my friends and compare it to their birth order. For the most part Sulloway’s findings match up perfectly. When you think about it, the ideas that he points out make perfect sense, and give a new perspective on people. After reading his paper, I feel luckier than ever to be an only child. I don’t have to put up with appeasing my older siblings; also I don’t have anyone to boss around, which can sometimes be a let down. All in all Sulloway provided me with an intriguing topic, which really captured my attention, and taught me something new and exciting.

Life and Love

Photobucket Being a girl is hard enough, but being a girl in New York could possibly be the hardest obstacle to overcome. You are surrounded by an array of guys, each one attempting at a chance to win her over. The problem there follows, the guys are not looking for a meaningful relationship, but rather a quick fling to fulfill their desires. Then there are those rare occasions when a girl stumbles upon a truly amazing guy. He knows exactly what to say to make her smile, and exactly how to make her feel like she is the only girl in the world. But unfortunately everyone has their flaws, and what happens when you just cannot see past a persons flaw. Does that mean you should give up on everything you could have with them, simply because of a minor detail? Or should you just look past the flaw and forge ahead with that person who can make you smile like no one else? There are so many questions that fill a girls head on a daily basis, and many of them go unanswered. There isn't a day that goes by when she doesn't think, "what would my life be like had I stayed with him?" or "when will I meet my Prince Charming?". Love is a major theme which consumes much of a girls time. She is constantly waiting to find the one guy that is going to sweep her off her feet and make her feel amazing. Many girls go through life without ever finding someone they truly love, I will not be one of those girls!
